Originally, yakitori (chicken on a stick) didn’t exist. There was yakiton – grilled pork – and there was kushikatsu – deep fried pork on a stick. Chicken became popular around 1900, but soon depleted during WWII due to scarcity and costs. However, the end of the war reduced costs and made yakitori widely accessible for millions of Japanese. Our sweet, sticky yakitori glaze composed of mirin, honey and crushed ginger is sure to deliver a taste explosion you’ll be craving long after your last bite.
