Recipe Description:

Growing up in Sydney, Lara Lee first encountered Indonesian culture through her father’s mother. Lara Lee’s grandmother Margaret Thali was a self-taught cook who had worked through her grief as a young widow by opening a bakery on the ground floor of her home in Kupang, Timor. Lara’s first visit to that old house and her experiences travelling around Indonesia are the inspiration for her book Coconut & Sambal. This Coconut Beef & Peanut Stir Fry is one of Margaret’s old recipes, packed full of classic Indonesian aromas, with the crunchy peanuts and explosive flavours adding a dramatic touch.
