Recipe Description:

The story of this rustic Italian pasta dish is one of culinary improvisation. Legend has it that chef Sandro Petti created the recipe when low on ingredients and needing to serve a table of hungry guests at his restaurant. One such guest is said to have asked the chef to "throw together whatever", using the Italian slang "putta" which, amongst other rather unsavoury meanings, can be used to refer to "stuff". Chef Petti had tomatoes, olives, and capers in his kitchen that night, and so the Puttanesca was born.
